Ilah, 14 Months Old

Our Adorable Ilah,

Spring has sprung. The beautiful dogwood trees have began to blossom and Easter is just around the corner. The weather is warming up and you just love being outside. So yesterday, mommy took you out to feel the sun and warm breeze - and to capture some pictures of you at 14 months young.

I bought this dress for you before you were even born, and like most of your clothes, you managed to nearly outgrow it before even wearing it once. Although you still have a bit of room in it, it isn't much so I had to put you in it today before it came up to your cute little belly button!

Your Abuela has started prepping your Easter basket and you noticed the colorful plastic eggs sitting out and reached for them. Naturally, your Abuela opened the packaged and gave them to you to play with, along with a little basket. Your cute little dress, and your little basket filled with eggs sure made for some cute {unexpected} Easter photos.

So what's up with you at 14 months Lee-Loo?!....

  • You have started saying a few new words: See, Mine. The word you say the most is still “No” and you shake your head. Too cute!

  • Yesterday at lunch with me and your Abuela, you scribbled for the first time with crayons! Of course, mommy saved your first “picture” : )

  • You are such a physically strong girl! You love to push chairs and other big things…practically across the room! I have closed a few cupboards with my hands, telling you, “no” and you will pull with all your might to open them and you give me a run for my money!

  • Anytime you see food you go bananas! And you want whatever it is NOW! You have become quite impatient. I hope it’s just a phase.

  • When we tell you to do certain things, you follow our instructions very well! This shows us just how much, and how well, you are processing things!

  • You have started to match appropriate shapes inside of your learning toys. The first time you did it, you would have thought you aced an entry exam into a prestigious college!

  • You copy EVERYTHING that mommy does, which means that you have started to clean off your highchair tray after you eat! It’s hilarious. You have seen mommy do this so many times so now I will give you a napkin after you are done eating, and you will bunch it up and move it back and forth and back in forth to clean up your little messes!

  • You LOVE being outside. When we bring you back in, you throw a little temper tantrum.

  • You are attached to your pink doggy “Rufea”. You just loooove holding her and cuddling with her. When you see her, you say “ruff, ruff’ and squeeze her tight. You also sleep with her every night, and during your nap times during the day.

  • You get upset when you are frustrated. The chance that you won’t flip out when doing a diaper change is 50/50. Oh, who am I kidding. It’s more like 80/20. With 80% being the probability that you will flair your body around, throw everything within arms reach of you, squirm to no end, try to snatch the diaper from my hand, try to flip over, and wail until it’s all done. Fun times for mommy.

  • You have started to walk backwards. So random, but one day you started doing it and now it’s become your new favorite thing to do!

  • You are always trotting and prancing around as if you own the place!

  • You practically take off running now and I am so afraid that you will do a nose dive so I am always closely behind you and sometimes can’t resist taking a hold of your hand when I feel you are going too fast. Naturally, you try to wiggle your hand out of mine because you love being independent!

  • Mommy bought you a medium size purple ball last month and you kick it around all the time, and throw it too.

  • I have noticed that you take to certain toys now and you have your favorites.

  • We brush your teeth now and as with everything else, you want to do it on your own. And you do. How well you do it though….that’s another story. So mommy or daddy gets in there first and then hand your toothbrush back to you.

  • You get a total kick out of seeing yourself in the mirror! You will kiss the glass {kissing yourself!} and wave to us through the mirror. You look into it, and then back at us trying to figure out how you can see us both inside of the mirror and also turn around and see us outside of it. Too funny!

  • Clearly you see mommy and daddy on the phone a lot because often you put your play phones {or other objects} to your ear and pretend to be talking!

  • You are playing a new game with mommy all the time!.... “Pretend” food and drink! You will come up to me, open my hand up and take something out {air!} and then use your two fingers to put it in your mouth and go yummm!! And then you also turn around and feed mommy the fake food and drink too!

  • You absolutely love to share!! Anything you have….foods, toys…you share. I think that is just so sweet.

  • You notice things up high like ceiling fans or airplanes and point up at them and say, “see!”

  • You wave hello and good-bye to literally everyone! Ha ha!

  • You have started to sit still while we read to you…your attention span is growing. I read five books to you back-to-back the other day and you sat perfectly still, turned the pages, and marveled at each of them!
  • In your 13 month post I noted how you have never had separation anxiety….well, it seems that now when you see mommy leave, you start to cry : ( It’s only happened a few times last week and your Abuela says it only lasts for a minute for so.

  • During our days together you will come up to me randomly and just reach out and hug me and rest your cute little head on my shoulder and squeeze me tight. Oh man. It just melts my heart.

  • You beat your cute little hands on all kinds of objects {chairs, the lid on your Abuela's trashcan, tabletops}....you just love making that sound.

  • You continue make this funny little face....
  • And then there's also this face that you make. It's called the, "Heeeey. Are you listening to me? I will do what I want to!!!". And cue mommy inhaling and exhaling, and counting to 10. Ha! Ha! I can't wait to show you these pictures when you are older!.....
I feel as though you are far ahead of where you should be at your age. I can’t believe all that you do! And you retain so much! It just amazes me how quickly you learn new things! You are growing so fast!

Just as the light is shining on you in this picture below, you are so radiant Ilah. You brighten our days in so many ways!

We will love you forever and ever...and past forever.

- Mommy & Daddy
