A bomb attack has killed at least four policemen and a child and wounded 21 others in the city of Peshawar in northwest Pakistan.

The incident occurred on Thursday when a roadside bomb went off as a police van was passing in Gulbahar area of Peshawar, a Press TV correspondent reported.

Police officials said among the injured were 14 policemen and seven civilians.

Just after the attack, security forces cordoned off the area and shifted the injured to a local hospital.

No group has claimed responsibility for the bombing.

In the past few years, Peshawar has been hit by numerous bomb explosions, some of which resulted in heavy casualties.

Pakistani officials blame the violent attacks mainly on militants that are highly active in the country's tribal belt.

On Wednesday, unknown gunmen attacked a police check post in southwestern Balochistan province of Pakistan and killed at least two policemen and injured three others.
